The league started out as the Dow Chemical Volleyball League in the spring of 1993, and in 2001 the name was changed to the Fort Saskatchewan Co-Ed Volleyball League.
The league started as a 3 month season in the spring and a 3 month season in the fall. The spring season of 1993 began with a 6 team league and a 1 Tiered Playoff format. It carried on this way until the 1996/1997 season when 10 teams were requesting a 2 Tiered Playoff format. This became too much for league administration and the 2 season per calender year were scrapped in favor of a single 6 month season.

Games are scheduled to last no longer than 45 minutes so each team will play twice on the same night, typically once per week unless there is an odd number of teams.
The schedule is weighted and drafted as per the Team Registration process. The playoff schedule is drafted from the results of the Regular Season Standings, each teams individual regular season schedule as well as the Team Registration process. The league is then divided into the 3 Tiers based on the amount of teams in the league for that year of play. Up for grabs every year are the league Championship Trophies and prizes as well. Playoff season begins in the mid to late
March.
